Fall Sports Kickoff in Vermont

This week marked the start of the 2024 Vermont high school fall sports season. Teams from across the state took to the fields and gyms, providing fans with exciting action in soccer, field hockey, volleyball, golf, and cross-country running.

In field hockey, Champlain Valley showcased a dominating performance, winning against BFA-St. Albans with a score of 5-0. Elsa Klein led the Redhawks with 2 goals and 2 assists, while teammates Rienna Murray and Lily Williams also contributed to the scoreline.

Another standout match was Burr and Burton’s tight victory over Rutland, finishing 1-0 thanks to Piper Morgan’s goal in the fourth quarter. It was a hard-fought match with strong defensive play from both sides, highlighted by Rutland’s goalie Sammy Cacace, who made 9 saves.

In boys’ soccer, Rice High School earned a solid 4-0 win over Vergennes, fueled by Esme Cyr’s impressive 2 goals performance. Meanwhile, St. Johnsbury edged out Burlington in a close encounter, with a final score of 3-2.

Several teams will play throughout the week, with exciting matches scheduled at 4 p.m. and beyond. Notable games include Montpelier facing off against Stowe, and Essex taking on Colchester. Fans can expect more thrilling sports action as the season rolls on.
