Pittsburgh High School Sports Heat Up with Crucial Playoff Matchups This Week

In Pittsburgh, the excitement is building as high school sports gear up for an action-packed Monday night. The ice rinks and soccer fields are set to host several important matches in various divisions, as teams aim for a shot in the playoffs.

The hockey schedule tonight features a mix of games across all classes. In Class 3A, Franklin Regional will take on Upper St. Clair at Ice Castle at 9 p.m. Meanwhile, in Class 2A, Penn-Trafford faces Bishop McCort at the Cambria County War Memorial at 6 p.m. Other notable games include Fox Chapel against Norwin at Palmer Imaging Arena at 7:10 p.m., and Hampton squaring off against North Hills at the RMU Island Sports Center at 7:15 p.m.

In Class A, Meadville will meet Quaker Valley at 7 p.m. at Baierl Ice Complex, while Wheeling Park takes on Butler at 7 p.m. at Frozen Pond Arena. As for the Division 2 games, Morgantown faces Bishop Canevin at Ice Castle at 7 p.m.

Turning to the soccer field, the WPIAL playoffs commence with several first-round matches scheduled for Tuesday, showcasing teams eager to make their mark. In Class 4A, Plum, with an impressive record of 15-0-3, has been granted a bye, giving them a moment to regroup. Other matches will feature Gateway visiting Canon-McMillan, and North Hills heading to Norwin, both at 6:30 p.m.

In Class 2A, Waynesburg will look to upset South Park at the same time. Several other matches in this division also promise some thrilling soccer as teams strive for progression in the tournament. For the girls’ Class 4A first round, Peters Township has a bye, while key matches will unfold with Latrobe facing Pine-Richland.

The tennis scene heats up with the PIAA playoffs kicking off on Tuesday, featuring both Class 3A and Class 2A schools. With teams like Shady Side Academy and Quaker Valley gearing up, fans can expect some competitive matches throughout the day.

Lastly, in volleyball, the girls’ WPIAL playoffs are ready to start, with key matchups set for Tuesday evening. Notably, North Allegheny receives a bye, but teams like Fox Chapel and Upper St. Clair will clash at 7 p.m. in what promises to be an exciting matchup.
