Newberry County, S.C. – Man Charged with Multiple Sex Crimes Involving Minor

A 26-year-old man from Newberry County, South Carolina, has been charged with several serious sex crimes involving a minor. Tyreek Latravious Brown was taken into custody by the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) on Tuesday, July 1, and is now facing multiple charges including criminal sexual conduct, luring a child, trafficking in persons, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Brown has been charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 16, classified as second degree. In addition, he faces a charge for luring or enticing a child for unlawful purposes involving a victim under the age of 16, as well as trafficking in persons with a victim under 18 years of age, and a charge for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

According to the arrest warrants, Brown allegedly lured a 15-year-old runaway girl to Newberry County on or around June 10, 2025. Reports indicate that from June 14 to June 27, he harbored the victim, effectively preventing her from returning home and providing her with drugs during that time. It is alleged that the victim was subjected to sexual battery and sex trafficking during the period of her captivity.

Details about the specific locations where Brown and the victim stayed are not available. Investigators have uncovered that on June 27, Brown allegedly committed second-degree criminal sexual conduct and sexual battery against the minor within Newberry County. Law enforcement officials believe he knowingly trafficked the victim into the area, aware that she would be subjected to sex trafficking.

At this stage of the investigation, authorities are uncertain regarding the number of minors who may potentially be involved in these allegations. The investigation is ongoing, with the collaborative efforts of SLED, the Newberry Police Department, and the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.

Brown is currently being held at the Newberry County Detention Center as authorities continue to investigate the full extent of the situation. The seriousness of the charges against him highlights the significant concern for the safety and well-being of minors in the community.

The case raises alarming questions about the prevalence of child sex trafficking and exploitation, prompting local authorities to emphasize the importance of vigilance and community awareness in identifying and reporting suspicious behavior that may endanger children. The ongoing investigation is crucial, not only for the resolution of this case but also for the protection of other potential victims.

As the law enforcement agencies continue to work diligently to uncover more information and determine the extent of the allegations, they are urging anyone with additional information pertinent to the investigation to come forward to assist in ensuring justice is served.
