Anderson Shines at the 2025 Electric City Invitational!
This past weekend, Anderson, South Carolina, took center stage as the Newberry College men’s and women’s track & field teams showcased their incredible talents at the 2025 Electric City Invitational held on April 4th and 5th. With a mix of top finishes and personal bests, the Wolves brought their A-game to the competition, making it an event to remember.
Women’s Track & Field Highlights
The women’s team came out swinging, and Irma Watson-Perez was a standout star, dazzling the crowd with her fantastic throwing skills. She snagged the first-place spot in the discus competition with a remarkable throw of 43.22 meters and kept the momentum rolling by securing second place in the hammer throw with a distance of 50.34 meters. It’s safe to say, she was on fire!
Not to be outdone, Andrea Pascual Rivera stepped up and took the top honor in the hammer throw with an impressive heave of 51.98 meters. This event showcased the amazing athletes at Newberry, proving that they have what it takes when the chips are down.
Isabel Farup and Jameria Davis also made their marks in the high jump. Farup reached a height of 1.55 meters, landing her in third place, while Davis wasn’t far behind, finishing in fourth with a leap of 1.50 meters. Adding to her achievements, Davis sprinted her way to an 11th place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 26.11 seconds.
Kamryn Adderton put in a solid effort in the 400m, clocking in at 59.55 seconds for a seventh-place finish. Meanwhile, the 4x400m relay team made a splash too, consisting of Ruby Hansen, Leiyana Rose, Jameria Davis, and Kamryn Adderton, finishing eighth with a time of 5:02.29. Team spirit was clearly alive and well!
Men’s Track & Field Highlights
The excitement didn’t stop with the women’s team. The men’s track & field team showcased some remarkable performances as well. Leading the pack was Landon Tucker, who dashed through the 400m hurdles to claim first place with a stellar time of 55.13 seconds, racking up a hefty 10 points for his team. Talk about a strong contribution!
Tyler Shumate also made a name for himself by finishing fourth in the 800m with a time of 1:56.15, demonstrating his incredible speed and stamina. Sean Price made waves in the hammer throw, securing second place with a throw of 50.59 meters, proving just how tough Newberry’s throwers are.
Walker Flores joined the throwing frenzy, finishing fourth in the hammer with a distance of 46.18 meters and also competing in the discus where he finished 15th with a throw of 36.30 meters. The strong performances continued with Addison O’Cain, who qualified for the finals in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.73 seconds, wrapping up in the finals with a time of 16.30. That’s what we call resilience!
No event is complete without some sprinting action! Justin Canty sprinted his way to a fourth-place finish in the 400m with a blistering time of 49.22 seconds. Jamari Bennett also put forth a valiant effort in the 200m dash, finishing 13th with a time of 22.36 seconds. The team also made strides in the 4x100m relay, with Ja-Narrious Hillman, Shamar Brown, Kalvin Tobias, and Justin Canty racing to a third-place finish, clocking in at 41.84 seconds.
