To qualify for the Academic All-District distinction, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. This recognition highlights the dedication of the athletes not only to their sport but also to their academic pursuits.

Emma Arnal, a sophomore majoring in business, has made significant contributions to the team’s success, especially as the #1 doubles partner alongside senior Renee Dorval, who is also majoring in business. Both athletes have displayed exemplary performance in singles as well, with Arnal competing in the #1 singles position and Dorval playing at #6 singles.

Senior Alexa Gamborino-Suarez has showcased her skills on the court as part of the #2 doubles team with junior Margarita Roshka, who majors in criminal justice. Gamborino-Suarez fulfilled the role of #5 singles player, while Roshka contributed by competing in the #2 singles position. In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Gamborino-Suarez has been involved in the college community, contributing to ‘Wolves Weekly’ in the Spanish edition and gaining experience through an internship at the Newberry Observer during her senior year.

On the men’s tennis team, Daniel Watson, a sophomore majoring in psychology, has also earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors. Like his female counterparts, Watson achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. He primarily participated in #1 doubles and #3 singles for the Wolves this season, demonstrating both athletic prowess and academic excellence.

The recognition of these five Newberry College tennis athletes reflects the institution’s commitment to balancing academic success with athletic performance. This achievement serves as an inspiration to current and prospective student-athletes, showcasing that high academic standards can be met alongside competitive sports participation.
