Anderson, S.C. – Newberry College Softball Concludes 2024 Season Falling 7-5 to LMU
ANDERSON, S.C. – The Newberry College softball team wrapped up their 2024 season with a hard-fought 7-5 loss to the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters (27-25, 11-13 SAC) this afternoon.
Game Highlights
The Wolves (25-25, 11-13 SAC) got off to a strong start with a solo home run from Sierra Brogdon in the top of the first inning, putting them ahead 1-0. However, the Railsplitters quickly responded with three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead.
Newberry fought back in the second inning, as Bethany Pigg launched a two-run homer to tie the game at 3-3. Lincoln Memorial added three more runs in the bottom of the third to regain the lead at 6-3.
In the top of the fifth, Vanessa Wilson’s RBI single and a run scored by Hailey Hill cut the Railsplitters’ lead to 6-5. However, Lincoln Memorial managed to add another run in the bottom of the fifth, securing a 7-5 victory.
Game Leaders
Sierra Brogdon went 2 for 4 at the plate with a home run and an RBI. Hailey Hill and Vanessa Wilson also had strong performances, each going 2 for 4 at the plate. Bethany Pigg contributed with a 1 for 3 performance, including two RBIs.
Despite the loss, the Wolves showed resilience and determination throughout the game, wrapping up their season with a competitive performance against a tough opponent.
