Newberry, SC – The Newberry College track and field teams concluded their season at the Lenoir Rhyne Last Chance Meet, with standout performances from several athletes, particularly Shamar Brown and Landon Tucker, in the men’s 400 meter hurdles event. Brown secured first place with a personal record of 52.26 seconds, while Tucker followed closely, finishing in third place with a time of 54.28 seconds.

The 2025 track and field season for the Newberry Wolves has come to a close, showcasing the dedication and hard work of its student-athletes throughout the year. This season has emphasized the importance of commitment to both individual performance and team success.

Newberry College celebrated the achievements and contributions of its student-athletes on May 5 during the annual Wolfies event held at Eleazer Arena. The event recognized various athletes for their outstanding performances and contributions across multiple sports. Among the notable winners, Haidyn Campbell from the softball team was awarded Female Newcomer of the Year, while Liam Vollans from men’s lacrosse received the Male Newcomer of the Year accolade.

Additional awards included Irma Watson-Perez from women’s track and field, who was honored with the Female Individual Performance of the Year, and Braden Tatum from men’s wrestling, who took home the Male Individual Performance of the Year award. The field hockey team earned recognition as the Female Team of the Year, while men’s lacrosse was acknowledged as the Male Team of the Year.

Further distinctions were presented at the Wolfies, including Rebecca Lipp (women’s soccer) and Brett Dent (men’s basketball), who both received the Billy Douglas Community Award. Moreover, Lipp also won the W.L. Laval Award as the senior athlete of the year, while Benedikt Fischer (men’s golf) was awarded the Jimmy Villeponteaux Senior Athlete of the Year honor. Additional awardees included Hannah Dave, named Female Sport Coach of the Year, and Nick Cotter, who received the Male Sport Coach of the Year accolade.

In recognition of resilience and perseverance, Christine Butler from softball received the Female Comeback Player of the Year award, and Dayton Fields from men’s wrestling was honored as the Male Comeback Player of the Year. Adriana Hart from women’s lacrosse was awarded the Female Iron Wolf title, while Cael Alderman from men’s wrestling received the Male Iron Wolf honor. The culmination of athletics and academics at Newberry College was also highlighted during the graduation ceremony on May 17, where nearly 120 student-athletes celebrated their academic achievements at Setzler Field.

Among the graduates, Rebecca Hartrick from women’s triathlon received the George B. Cromer Award for demonstrating academic excellence, leadership, and integrity. Stembile Chikoree from women’s field hockey was awarded the Mary Mildred Sullivan Award, recognizing her embodiment of faith, hope, and charity. The Dr. L Grady Cooper Award for loyalty and devotion to Newberry College was given to Alexa Anderson from women’s golf.

The graduating class included students from various sports and fields of study, such as Ryan B. Barnett in Sport Management and Baseball, Irma H. Watson-Peréz in Biology and Women’s Track, and Tamsin Bangert in Business Administration and Field Hockey, among others.
