Whitsell has proven himself as a talented golfer, having been a two-year letterwinner at Limestone College after transferring from Spartanburg Methodist College. Under Alexander’s mentorship, he notably finished 11th at the 2025 South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Championships. His leadership was further demonstrated by his role as team captain at Limestone, Spartanburg Methodist, and Deer Creek High School in Oklahoma.

Mackense Greico Joins Softball as Assistant Coach

In softball, Newberry College head coach Mitch Smith has appointed Mackense Greico as the new assistant coach. Greico is distinguished for her athletic prowess, having played for the University of Maryland and Furman University. Last season, she served as a graduate assistant at the University of Mississippi, contributing to the Rebels’ successful journey to the NCAA Tournament.

During her time at Maryland, Greico started in 89 games and had an impressive batting average of .328, showcasing her offensive skills with 18 doubles and 10 home runs. She achieved recognition as a second-team All-Big Ten selection in 2023, battening .342 with six home runs and 31 RBIs. Her accomplishments also included being named Big Ten Player of the Week twice, once on March 2, 2022, and again on May 8, 2023. Prior to her time at Maryland, Greico played at Furman, where she maintained a .355 batting average alongside 14 doubles and 39 RBIs over her career.

Jameson Keppeler Appointed as Assistant Tennis Coach

Newberry College’s head tennis coach Aletta Macheli welcomed Jameson Keppeler as the assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach. Keppeler brings experience from his recent role as assistant tennis coach at the State University of New York at Oswego, where he contributed to the development of student-athletes.
