Cross Country State Championships Results in Kansas
This past Saturday, the Kansas high school cross country state championships were held at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence and Wamego Country Club. The event featured several teams competing in different class categories, with all races set at a distance of 5 kilometers.
Class 6A Boys
The Garden City team emerged victorious with a total of 66 points, beating out Junction City, who took second place with 101 points. Shawnee Mission South secured third place with 104 points. Notable individual performances included Theel from Olathe West, finishing first with a time of 15:20.11.
Class 6A Girls
In the girls’ race, both Olathe West and Washburn Rural tied with a score of 80 points, but Olathe West claimed the championship based on individual times. Pickler from Junction City won first place with a time of 18:37.27.
Class 5A Boys
Spring Hill dominated the boys’ race, scoring 35 points to take the title. Blue Valley Southwest followed closely with 40 points. Beckman from Spring Hill was the top finisher, crossing the line in 15:23.94.
Class 5A Girls
The St. James Academy girls’ team also took home the top spot, scoring 77 points. Rupe from Salina Central came in first individually with a winning time of 17:09.77.
Class 4A Boys
In the boys’ 4A race, Wamego finished with a strong score of 52 points. Muehler from McPherson stood out, finishing first in 16:33.40.
Class 4A Girls
Buhler clinched the girls’ title with 78 points. The standout performer was Keltner from Eudora with a finishing time of 19:18.56.
Class 3A Boys
Holcomb secured the boys’ championship with a total of 58 points. Deniston from Holcomb crossed the finish line first overall in 15:12.14.
Class 3A Girls
It was a tight race for the girls, with Hesston winning with 104 points. The individual champion was Hein from Wichita Trinity Academy, who finished in 18:26.90.
Class 2A Boys
Central Heights took home the title, scoring 34 points. The individual champion was Hammond from Central Heights, finishing in 16:35.85.
Class 2A Girls
In a shared victory, Remington and Berean Academy both scored 108 points, but Remington earned the win based on individual times. Howland from Smith Center was the top finisher, running in 18:50.76.
Class 1A Boys
Quinter dominated with a total of 29 points, with Durst from Lebo taking first in 16:53.20.
Class 1A Girls
Finally, the girls’ race saw South Gray succeed with a score of 34 points. The top individual was Boydston from Ellis, who finished with a time of 19:32.33.
The state championships showcased remarkable talent and determination across all classes and genders, highlighting the hard work of student-athletes from across Kansas.
