High School Sports Roundup from McDowell
In Erie, the high school basketball scene was lively over the weekend as teams competed in the McDowell tournament. In Sunday’s consolation game, Benedictine from Ohio triumphed over the International Sports Academy, winning 69-51. Meanwhile, Knoch clutched the championship title with a close 58-49 victory against the host team, McDowell.
The excitement continues this Monday with a packed schedule across districts. The non-section matches kick off at 7:30 p.m. with Apollo-Ridge visiting West Shamokin, while teams like Beth-Center will be at Charleroi, as well as Bishop Canevin squaring off against Butler. Other notable games include Perry Traditional Academy traveling to Springdale and Peters Township playing at Seneca Valley.
In girls’ basketball, several teams will also hit the courts, with Aliquippa heading to South Side at 7:00 p.m. Blackhawk will face Moon at 7:30 p.m., and Hampton will take on Armstrong at the same time. Not to miss, the match between Derry and Geibel at 7:00 p.m. is sure to excite the fans.
In addition to basketball, the hockey leagues have scheduled matches too. Upper St. Clair will challenge North Allegheny at 7:00 p.m. at the Baierl Ice Complex. Other key matchups include Cathedral Prep against Penn-Trafford and Indiana playing Wheeling Park.
Wrestling fans can look forward to matches this Monday, with Yough hosting Brashear and Knoch visiting Pine-Richland, both starting at 7:00 p.m..
