High School Sports Roundup: Top Performers Shine
This past week in high school sports saw some outstanding performances across various games in the area. Football, soccer, and cross country teams all showcased their talents, and here are the highlights.
Football
In a thrilling football matchup, Archie Jones from CBA had a fantastic game, completing 16-of-24 passes for 364 yards and throwing four touchdown passes, in addition to running for two more touchdowns. This helped lead the Brothers to a decisive 47-6 victory over Niskayuna. His teammate, Lucius Anderson, also played a crucial role, catching six passes for 199 yards and scoring three touchdowns.
In another game, Jake Smith from Shaker contributed significantly to his team’s 26-14 win against Averill Park with an impressive 85-yard touchdown run and a 58-yard touchdown reception. Nick Graziano also found the end zone with both a rushing and receiving touchdown to bolster the Blue Bison’s success.
Soccer
On the soccer field, Aidan Gatchell of Columbia stood out, netting three goals in a dominating 6-0 win over Albany. Numerous players excelled, including Godfred Basigi from Mohonasen, who helped his team secure a 7-0 victory against Lansingburgh with multiple assists and goals.
For the girls, Payton Galuski from Waterford-Halfmoon scored three goals and assisted two more, contributing significantly to her team’s 7-0 triumph over Stillwater.
Cross Country
In cross country, Thomas Isenovski from Saratoga Springs proved to be a top runner, winning the Division IV race at the Burnt Hills Invitational with a time of 15:10. His impressive performance led to a great showing from his team. Meanwhile, Shenendehowa’s girls’ cross country team stepped up as they captured the team title at the same invitational.
