High School Sports Highlights from Last Week
In Albany, high school athletes displayed remarkable performances across various sports last week, showcasing skill and determination. The football field was dominated by several standout players.
For the Blue Bison of Shaker, senior Jake Smith had an impressive game, scoring two touchdowns in the second quarter, including a thrilling 51-yard punt return. He also rushed for 72 yards, helping his team defeat Guilderland 34-6.
Meanwhile, senior quarterback Dylan Maychack from Columbia broke open a tight game against La Salle with a stunning 99-yard touchdown run, leading the Blue Devils to a 28-12 victory. Equally notable was Jacob Phelps of Averill Park, who rushed for three touchdowns in a 30-12 win over Amsterdam, recording 131 yards on seven carries.
In another thrilling matchup, Jay Felio of Bethlehem rushed for 144 yards and found the end zone four times, aiding his team in a solid 27-8 win against Troy. The Black Bears of Glens Falls saw eighth-grader Jordan Baker shine, rushing for 198 yards and scoring three touchdowns to secure a 40-7 victory over Hoosick Falls/Tamarac.
Turning to soccer, Owen Bradt from Shaker became the program’s all-time leading scorer as he netted two goals and provided an assist in a 4-0 win over Middletown. He recorded five goals and three assists over the week, contributing to the team’s strong performance.
On the girls’ soccer field, Marie Bogue from Guilderland shined with a hat trick in a 6-0 victory over Colonie. Individual performances from Evelyn Messner of Schoharie, who posted three goals and two assists in an 11-0 win against Johnstown, highlighted the week for female athletes.
The volleyball courts saw Reagan Ennist lead her team with notable kills and assists throughout the week. In a 3-0 win against Bethlehem, she provided 17 kills, proving instrumental in her team’s success.
As the season progresses, the spotlight will remain on these talented athletes as they compete and strive for excellence in their sports.
