High School Football Updates: CIF Regional Championship Games
This Saturday, December 7, several high school football teams took to the field in Southern California for the CIF Southern California Regional championship games, and the action was thrilling.
In Edison, the home crowd witnessed a nail-biter as the Eagles edged out Granite Hills with a final score of 34-28. Julius Gillick shone brightly, carrying the ball for 240 yards on 39 carries and scoring 3 touchdowns. This victory propels Edison into the Division 1A state championship game against Central of Fresno next Saturday at Saddleback College.
Moving to Palos Verdes, the team secured their place in the Division 2-A title game after defeating Bakersfield Christian 28-10. Once again, Palos Verdes showed strength with another impressive second-half performance, keeping their opponents scoreless.
In Division 3-A, Rio Hondo Prep knocked off Poway with a convincing 28-14 victory, earning them a spot in their first state championship game. They will compete on December 15 at Long Beach City College’s Veterans Stadium.
St. Pius X-St. Matthias roared back from a challenging 1-9 regular season to defeat St. Augustine 28-7, advancing to the Division 4-A state championship game against NorCal champion Sonora next Saturday at Long Beach.
In the lower divisions, Palmdale held off Selma in a close game, finishing 41-38, while Monte Vista triumphed over Pasadena with a score of 41-21. Lastly, the Titans from Pioneer dominated Panorama with a final score of 24-0, showcasing a solid performance to secure their advancement to the regional bowl game next week.
