High School Golf Championship Recap
Madison – The high school golf scene in Wisconsin saw exciting action as Divine Savior Holy Angels (DSHA) and Edgewood clinched state titles in their respective divisions. DSHA secured their second consecutive victory in Division 1, finishing strong with a team score of 637, outpacing Prescott, who had dominated Division 2 in previous years with four state titles. Prescott moved up to Division 1 this year due to the WIAA’s competitive balance initiative but finished in second with a total of 666.
In Division 1, Middleton came in third with 667, while Arrowhead and Brookfield East rounded out the top five, finishing at 675 and 680 respectively. Kaukauna and Bay Port also competed, taking seventh and ninth places with scores of 693 and 710.
On the individual front, McKenna Nelson of Beaver Dam/Wayland made headlines by tying a tournament record with an impressive first-round score of 65. She followed this up with a 73 in the second round, tying with Payton Haugen of Brookfield East at a total of 138. Nelson clinched the title on the first playoff hole, making par while Haugen finished with a bogey.
In Division 2, Edgewood claimed victory with a total score of 756, just four strokes ahead of Spooner. This win marked the Crusaders’ 16th state championship but their first since 2019. Other notable finishes included Seymour in fourth place with a score of 793 and Freedom in sixth with 865.
The individual championship in Division 2 went to Belle Kongshaug from Colfax/Elk Mound, who shot a total of 153 to become the repeat champion. Morgan Lewis from Seymour placed ninth with a 183, while Taylor Miller of Oconto Falls captured tenth with a 185.
