Cheverus Senior Lucy Johnson Wins Prestigious Miss Maine Field Hockey Award

In Portland, Cheverus senior Lucy Johnson has made headlines by winning the prestigious Miss Maine Field Hockey award, recognized as the state’s top senior player. This announcement came during the annual awards banquet hosted by the Maine Field Hockey Association on Sunday in Augusta.

Lucy Johnson has set an impressive mark for herself during her high school career, holding the state scoring record with 152 goals to her name. This achievement is even more remarkable considering her older sister, Lily Johnson, who is currently a freshman at Boston University, won the same award in 2023. With this win for Lucy, the Johnson sisters have now become the first siblings to earn the Miss Maine Field Hockey award in consecutive years. Previously, sisters Amanda Chase and Julia Chase had a similar achievement between 2002 and 2004.

During her time at Cheverus, Lucy also played a crucial role in leading the Stags to their first three championships in history, triumphing in 2021, 2023, and this fall. With an outstanding record of winning 71 out of 72 games, her contributions have been instrumental for her team.

Looking back, Lucy expressed her gratitude, stating, “It’s great and I’m glad that (Lily) and I get to share this bond. It was a big goal for sure. When I came to Cheverus as a freshman, I loved the sport and I knew I was going to work hard, but I didn’t think this would be the outcome. I’m so happy it was. I couldn’t have done it without my teammates. We just wanted to set each other up for success.”

As a next step, Lucy is set to continue her field hockey career at Boston University next year, where she will join her sister on the same campus, marking another exciting chapter in their athletic journey.
