Chatfield Boys Basketball Eyeing a Turnaround Season

Littleton — The Chatfield boys basketball team is making waves this season, mainly because it is focused on leaving behind last year’s struggles. After finishing with a disappointing 4-win record, Coach Nathan Jerome has the team off to a promising start with a 2-1 record. “The hardest part is getting your whole team on the same page,” said senior Creighton Chaney. The players are eager for opponents not to overlook them anymore.

In their latest game at the Charger Tournament, Chatfield defeated D’Evelyn 68-36, showcasing their potential. Chaney emphasized the importance of building confidence within the team, saying, “We’ve put the work in and decided to step it up.” Jerome, who was previously an assistant coach at Dakota Ridge, praised the basketball community and the school’s support, stating, “The kids want to be good young men as well as good basketball players.”

The Chargers opened the game with a quick 10-0 lead but faced a brief struggle when D’Evelyn went on a 12-0 run. After that, the Chatfield defense took charge, limiting D’Evelyn to just 23 points over the final three quarters. “Defense is definitely where we want to start everything,” said Jerome.

In their victory, sophomore Brody Logan led the team with 14 points, while Chaney added 10 points. The team also saw contributions from various players, with ten players scoring in total. This approach allowed everyone to gain valuable experience.

Looking ahead, Chatfield is set to face Highlands Ranch in the semifinal round of the tournament on December 13, which promises to be an exciting challenge. Chaney summed up their focus perfectly: “Every game is important no matter what. You want to prove you are a tough team. Hopefully, we can bring this one home and win this tournament. That’s our goal.”

As the team continues to build on its early success, they hope to change the perception of Chatfield basketball and pave the way for a brighter future.
