William Benjamin “Butch” Jernigan, Jr., a beloved figure in the Evans, Georgia community, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the age of 74. He spent his final moments surrounded by family, including his wife of 54 years, Santalee Judy “San” Jernigan.

Butch Jernigan was a dedicated family man, remembered affectionately by those close to him as the “world’s most huggable Pop.” He is survived by his two children, Tres Jernigan and Tara Jernigan Andrews, as well as his grandchildren, Will Jernigan IV and Madeline Ruby Jernigan. His legacy also includes his canine companions, Sela and Ella, who were a source of joy in his life.

In addition to his family ties, Butch’s professional and personal contributions to the community were significant. He had a commendable career as the director of engineering at Comcast and spent over 20 years as a high school football official, where he was known for his dedication to the sport and the young athletes he mentored. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects one hour prior to the service. Pastor Sonny Jones will officiate the memorial, which promises to be a heartfelt tribute to a man who brought joy to many.

Honorary pallbearers will include several close friends and associates: Jody Dickson, Al Russo, Robert Omar, Andy Pilger, Rex Goble, Matt Haak, Danny Bailey, and Gil Rodriguez.
