As the holiday season approaches, high school basketball in the area is heating up with a packed schedule of tournaments and games this weekend. Armstrong, Ellwood City, and Latrobe are just a few places where local schools will compete on the court.
On Friday evening, fans can catch the action starting at 7:30 PM when Highlands faces off against Armstrong at the Armstrong tournament. At the same time, Blackhawk will take on Rochester at Ellwood City starting at 6 PM. Following that game, Union will play against Ellwood City at 7:30 PM.
Meanwhile, the Geneva College/Lincoln Park tournament will feature a doubleheader, including Beaver Falls squaring off against Ambridge at 6 PM, and Moon taking on Imani Christian at 7:30 PM.
Saturday promises even more excitement, with key matchups like Deer Lakes facing Armstrong at 4 PM and Blackhawk going against Union at 1:30 PM.
For the girls’ basketball action, Friday features Burgettstown taking on McGuffey at 6 PM at the Avella tournament, with Mapletown and Avella playing later at 8 PM. Fans can also check out the Deer Lakes tournament, where Springdale opens against Yough at 5 PM.
In addition to basketball, the PIAA football playoffs are still underway. On Friday, Downingtown West will compete against St. Joseph’s Prep at 7 PM in the 6A semifinals. Saturday will see Central Catholic face Harrisburg, also at 1 PM.
