High School Sports Update – Cape Cod Area
This week brought exciting matchups in high school sports across the Cape Cod area, showing off the talent and determination of the local athletes.
In field hockey, the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins faced a rematch against the Monomoy Sharks on Wednesday. After a surprising 1-1 tie three weeks ago, the Sharks dominated this time with a solid 3-0 win. Goals were scored by Mia Zimmerman, Samantha Clark, and Sophie Larivee, while Maddy Swett earned the shutout in goal for Monomoy. The Dolphins managed just three shots on goal, while Monomoy only allowed them two corners throughout the game.
In other scores, Notre Dame (H) defeated Barnstable 4-1. The Red Hawks dropped to a record of 1-10-2 this season. Avery Croteau and Gianna Devoe showed strong defense for Barnstable, with Samantha Marczely netting the team’s only goal, assisted by Shelby Locascio.
The Nauset Warriors got a 4-0 win over Falmouth, while Hull triumphed against Mashpee with a score of 6-1, bringing the Falcons’ record to 1-8-4.
In boy’s soccer, Nantucket narrowly beat Dennis-Yarmouth 3-2, with standout performances by Aldo Lemus and
The volleyball scene saw the Barnstable Red Hawks sweep Nauset 3-0, showing off their skills with a combined effort from players like Bella Magalhaes, Molly Gleason, and Briah Uhlman.
As for golf, the Barnstable Red Hawks narrowly missed qualifying for the Division 1 state championships, while Nauset secured a spot in the Division 2 state championship later this month.
Track results featured Falmouth‘s Silas Gartner crossing first in the boys’ race, and D-Y runners Olivia Pendelton and Siena Lauze tying for first in the girls’ event.
