High School Football Action Picks Up in Cincinnati

The second half of the 2024 high school football season kicked off in Cincinnati with some intense matchups, although many games were delayed or postponed due to the remnants of Hurricane Helene. Despite the soggy start, the games delivered plenty of excitement and surprises during Week 6.

The Thunderhawks had a standout performance against Middletown, winning 50-23. This victory puts them back in a tie for first place in their conference alongside Princeton and Lakota West. Ryder Hooks shined on the field, scoring three touchdowns, while quarterback J.T. Kitna connected with Zion Neal and Patrick McFarlane for two more passing touchdowns. Next up, Jon Kitna’s team will face Lakota West on October 18.

Lakota West continued to impress by crushing Colerain 52-0. The Rams, meanwhile, celebrated their fourth consecutive win after a rough start, defeating Fenwick 35-7, and did not allow Fenwick to score until late in the game.

In other action, McNicholas prevailed over Chaminade Julienne with a score of 42-23. A strong performance from Braden Bobo, who had two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown, along with three rushing touchdowns from Caleb Naumann helped push the Rockets to a 5-1 record. The upcoming clash between the Rams and Rockets on Week 10 is likely to be a decider for the league championship.

Lawrenceburg’s head coach Ryan Knigga made history this week, securing his 125th win against Batesville, thus becoming the winningest coach in the program’s history. Knigga surpassed the previous record held by Glenn Crocker.

In a surprising outcome, the Warriors, who were averaging just 4.4 points per game, erupted for 34 points and claimed a victory against New Richmond 34-14. After New Richmond closed the gap in the fourth quarter, the Warriors answered back with a kickoff return for a touchdown, ensuring their win.

Hamilton secured their first win in a series against Princeton in eight years, dominating with a 34-0 score. The Big Blue efficiently shut down their opponents, limiting Princeton to 46 total yards of offense.

In a thrilling game, the Knights bounced back from a past loss by defeating Lebanon 38-0, aided by Carson Lindholm, who rushed for 121 yards and scored four touchdowns.

Meanwhile, the Spartans achieved their fourth win in a row after a hard-fought game against Ross, finishing 31-14. An impressive senior performance led to a three-touchdown game in the first half.

As we move deeper into the season, it is clear that high school football in Cincinnati is heating up, and fans can expect even more thrilling matchups ahead.
