D.C. High School Football Update: Top Teams Impress in Week Three

As the third week of the 2024 District of Columbia high school football season wraps up, the city’s best teams have once again showcased their skills. The latest On3 Massey Ratings, released on September 18, reveal that there has been minimal movement in the top rankings. Six teams within the top ten remain undefeated, while only three teams ranked from 11 to 25 maintain their perfect records.

Leading the chart is Gonzaga, who continues its impressive streak of not allowing more than ten points in any match this season. In their recent victory over Loyola Blakefield, they held their opponents to just seven points while their offense thrived. Quarterback Jason Lindsay threw for 204 yards and two touchdowns, with David Fred adding 149 rushing yards and another pair of touchdowns. They are set to face fifth-ranked Archbishop Carroll on September 20.

At number two, St. John’s College has also shown strength, allowing only seven points in their last two games and scoring a whopping 94 points in that stretch. Their recent match saw them notch 52 points against Archbishop Carroll, with Breyon Williams leading the charge with three touchdowns. They’ll be looking to claim their third straight win against Friendship Collegiate.

Coming in third is Friendship Collegiate, who has been a tough opponent, entering their game against Dunbar with back-to-back shutouts. With only six points scored against them in three matchups, they have established a formidable defense.

The fourth-ranked team, Dunbar, boasts one of the top offenses, with impressive scoring of 43, 60, and 52 points in their games so far. They will be challenging for victory when they face their D.C. rivals, Friendship Collegiate, on September 20.

Meanwhile, Archbishop Carroll, now fifth, aims to bounce back from their loss against St. John’s and strategize for their next game against Gonzaga.

Other teams like the Roughriders, Bulldogs, and Warriors have also made their mark, all positioning themselves for good matchups as they head into more games over the coming weeks.

The football season is only heating up, and fans are eagerly waiting to see how these games unfold. With leaders holding strong and competitions heating up, the excitement is palpable as D.C. high school football continues to deliver thrilling action.
