Despite the loss, Newberry showed improvement within each set compared to their previous encounter with the Predators in October 2024, where they also lost by a similar margin of 3-0. As a result of this latest defeat, the Bulldogs’ record now stands at 1-9, while the victorious Fox Creek Predators improved their record to 13-9, extending their winning streak to five matches.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to play their next match against the Whitmire team at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, looking to break their long streak of losses and gain momentum. Meanwhile, the Fox Creek Predators will take on Keenan at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, aiming to continue their successful run.

Before facing the Predators, Newberry had previously suffered a 3-1 loss to Silver Bluff, marking their seventh consecutive defeat. In that match, Newberry lost to Silver Bluff with set scores of 3-0 earlier on September 9, 2024. Following the defeat to Silver Bluff, Newberry’s record was lowered to 1-7, while Silver Bluff improved to 9-6 after their victory.

Looking ahead, Newberry will participate in the Lady Bulldog Invitational (LBI) hosted by Bell High School this weekend. The tournament will feature eight volleyball teams, including five from the Mainstreet coverage area. Teams will be divided into two pools for competition. Newberry is placed in Pool B, alongside Meadowbrook Academy, Trenton, and Bronson. The LBI will commence at 5 p.m. on Friday.

Newberry coach Hank Rone has expressed concerns regarding the team’s serving performance, a critical aspect that has hindered their gameplay. He also mentioned the team’s resilient spirit, noting that several players have demonstrated improvements, especially junior Taylor Wells, who is stepping up in place of the injured Baylee Akers.

As the team prepares for the upcoming matches, including those in the LBI, the Bulldogs hope to turn their performance around and gain support from their home crowd.
