The Newberry College women’s triathlon team finished 9th out of 12 competing teams in the Lake Davidson Collegiate Cup held in Davidson, N.C. The competition featured a challenging race format comprising a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride, and a 5-kilometer run.

Leading the Newberry team, Kayleigh Geel achieved an impressive 51st overall finish with a total time of 1:07:02. Notably, Geel surpassed her previous year’s performance (2024) by almost 5 minutes and 30 seconds, showcasing significant improvement. Following Geel, teammate Anna Laskodi also made notable gains, recording a significant time drop of nearly 3 minutes in comparison to her 2024 results. Daritzamar Estrada Flores continued to gain valuable experience in collegiate racing, demonstrating strong performance despite finishing behind her teammates.

The Newberry College team finished with 110 points, just 15 points shy of securing 7th place. Despite not placing higher, Head Coach Marty Owens expressed pride in the team’s effort and emphasized the need to build momentum for upcoming races.
