Prosperity, South Carolina – The community of Prosperity is mourning the loss of local resident John Steven Greene, who passed away at the age of 73 on August 11, 2025. Greene died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and dedication.

Born on September 25, 1951, in Newberry, South Carolina, John was the son of the late L.C. Greene and Frances Phillips. He graduated from Gaffney High School in 1969 and dedicated 40 years to his career as a refrigeration engineer, working for reputable companies such as Carolina Turkeys and Grifols. In pursuit of his entrepreneurial spirit, he went on to establish his own business, Ryloc Services, where he served as a refrigeration consultant.

As a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach, Greene was known for his unwavering faith and service to the congregation. Friends and family affectionately referred to him as “Johnny.” A devoted family man, Greene was proud of his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, often putting family above all else.

During his leisure time, Greene enjoyed outdoor activities, particularly fishing and boating. He cherished his home on the lake, where he created many treasured memories with his family. Even in his final days, he was known for his great sense of humor and ability to bring laughter into his home.

Greene’s family includes his wife of 46 years, Debroah Long Greene, and three sons: Philip Brian Greene (Kaycie), Jonathan Alan Greene (Brittany), and Troy Steven Greene (Misty). He is also survived by his sister, Geraldine Greene Foreman (Ronnie), as well as 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, including Lucas and Carson Grinnell. Greene was predeceased by his eldest son, Christopher Greene, as well as his niece, Tracy Jones, and nephew, Zack Foreman.

In appreciation of the care and support provided during his last days, Greene’s family has expressed gratitude to Dr. Rashid and the dedicated nurses on the 3rd floor at Lexington Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Greene’s honor can be made to Diversified Ministries and the American Liver Foundation, reflecting his commitment to community support and health advocacy.

The family will receive friends on August 15, 2025, from 10-11 AM at Goldfinch Beach Chapel Funeral Home in Murrells Inlet, SC. A service conducted by Dr. Wayne Brown will take place at 11 AM, providing an opportunity for family and friends to honor and celebrate Greene’s life.

As Prosperity remembers John Steven Greene, his legacy of family devotion, service, and humor will undoubtedly be cherished by all who knew him.
