Senior Barton Mixon from Savannah Country Day School committed to play football at Sewanee: The University of the South, and Jada Brown, a standout player on the Richmond Hill High School girls basketball team, signed with Newberry College in South Carolina. The commitment signing events were marked with celebrations attended by family members, coaches, and classmates who supported both athletes in their next steps toward college athletics.

In addition to these signings, local students have also been recognized for their academic achievements through the *Sandpiper Supply scholarship competition*. Hart Tedder from H.V. Jenkins High School took home the first-place award of $1,000 for his essay. Elizabeth Perry, representing Savannah Country Day School, earned the second-place prize of $500, while Audrey Garlick from Richmond Hill High School secured the third-place scholarship of $250. Furthermore, six honorable mention scholarships were awarded, each granting $100, to students including Lauren Smith, Reyce Ripley, Seanna Elkassas, Tien Vu, Riley Stringer, and Jacques King.

Another notable recipient, Kaiya Hall from Savannah Arts Academy, received the inaugural John C. Howard, Jr Memorial Award valued at $2,000 for her insightful essay about Savannah. Through these efforts, Sandpiper Supply, Inc. has awarded over $20,000 in scholarships to local students thus far as part of their commitment to support educational pursuits in the community.

In sports achievements, the Savannah Country Day girls soccer team celebrated a remarkable victory, securing the Region 3A Division I championship with a commanding 5-0 win over St. Vincent’s. Under the guidance of head coach David Hooker, the team has strategically faced tough opponents to prepare for the playoffs. With an overall record of 14-3 and an impressive 5-0 in region play, they have remained a formidable contender.

Leading the way in the championship match was senior Sophia Okumu, who netted two goals at crucial moments – one in the 11th minute and another shortly after halftime in the 51st minute. Junior Emma Bromley, who has signed to play at the College of Charleston, showcased her talent by providing a critical assist to teammate Reese Bailey, who scored with a header. The scoring continued as Caroline Hill contributed a goal in the 64th minute, benefiting from two assists that showcased the team’s ability to work together effectively.

Goalkeeper Bella Grace Baker was instrumental in the team’s victory, making five saves during the match against St. Vincent’s. The team remains motivated after a recent loss to Richmond Hill, using that experience to fuel their determination for success. With their sights set on continuing this momentum, the Savannah Country Day soccer team is looking forward to hosting their first playoff match on April 24.
