NASHVILLE – Exciting Times for Tusculum Softball!
Batter up, folks! The Tusculum softball team is riding high, and it’s all thanks to the spectacular performance of graduate student Danielle Jason. This remarkable athlete just snagged her third player of the week accolade from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association!
On Tuesday, the news broke that Danielle not only earned conference recognition but also gained national attention for her incredible skills on the field. Over the past week, she has been nothing short of a powerhouse. With a staggering average of 0.762 at the plate, Danielle hit an amazing total of 16 hits in just six games. But that’s not all—she also crossed home plate 17 times and stole 11 bases.
Looking at her week’s stats, it’s clear that she’s a true team player. Danielle racked up four RBIs, hit four doubles, and even managed a triple! Her ability to navigate the base paths really shines through with those 11 steals, including a standout performance where she went 3-for-3 against Converse, adding three runs to her count.
Leading the Way!
To put it into perspective, for the entire season, Danielle is leading Division II with 14 stolen bases. She’s also second in runs per game with 2.25, third in steals per game at 1.75, and fourth in hits with 18. To top it all off, she holds positions in the top ranks for on-base percentage and doubles. Clearly, she’s making her mark and pushing the Tusculum Pioneers to an outstanding 8-0 record, which is the best start in program history!
Upcoming Schedule Changes
But hold onto your hats, because schedule changes are in the air! The Tusculum softball team is adjusting its plans a bit. The Pioneers are set to host West Virginia State University for a doubleheader this Friday at 2 p.m. at Red Edmonds Field. Don’t forget to mark your calendars!
Additionally, the series against Converse that was scheduled for February 15 will now take place on March 23 at 2 p.m.. Oh, and if you’re a baseball fan, the two-game series at Augusta has also been moved back by just a day to February 17 with a start time of noon.
Lacrosse News and More!
Switching gears a bit, let’s talk lacrosse! The Tusculum men’s and women’s lacrosse teams are moving their home matches this weekend due to the weather. Heavy rainfall has prompted the change, and now both matches will be held at Rocky Top Sports World in Gatlinburg. The women will play the University of Montevallo at 5 p.m. on Friday, while the men will face off against Virginia State University at noon on Saturday. And guess what? Admission is free!
So, whether you’re a softball enthusiast or a lacrosse lover, there’s plenty of action to catch in the coming days. With Danielle Jason leading the charge and some exciting matches on the horizon, it’s a fantastic time to be a sports fan in Nashville!
Stay in Touch
Make sure to keep an eye on the schedule as there may still be further changes coming. And as the teams continue their impressive performances, let’s support them every step of the way! Go Pioneers!
