Sedro Woolley Cubs Dominates Mountlake Terrace in Crossover Match

On Sunday, November 3, 2024, the Sedro Woolley Cubs showed their strength by defeating the Mountlake Terrace Hawks with an impressive score of 40-0. This game was part of the annual Wesco crossover matchups, where a strong second-place team from the 3A Wesco North faced off against a fellow contender from the 3A Wesco South. With this win, both teams are set to advance to the state round of 32 playoffs next week.

The Cubs, who have a season record of 7-2, will be heading to play against Central Valley, while the Hawks, now at 6-3, will take on Eastside Catholic.

In other local matchups, Edmonds-Woodway also claimed victory over Marysville Getchell with a score of 35-21. However, Edmonds-Woodway remains at a season record of 3-6, while Marysville is now 2-7.

In a standout performance, Jackson defeated Lynnwood with a staggering score of 71-7, leaving Lynnwood still searching for their first win this season at 0-9.

The Stanwood Spartans also had a good day, securing a win against Meadowdale with a score of 52-3. Stanwood’s record improves to 5-4, while Meadowdale drops to 3-6.

As for the 3A District 1 girls’ soccer tournament, the Mountlake Terrace Hawks faced a tough loss against Monroe, with a final score of 2-1. This loss has placed them in the consolation bracket where they must win two elimination matches to make it to the state tournament.

The Hawks will play their first elimination match against Everett on Tuesday, November 5th, at 6 p.m. at Everett Memorial Stadium.

In cross-country events, the District 1 Championships were held at Lakewood High School. The Shorewood boys team took first place with a score of 27, which qualifies them along with the top individual runners for state. The Shorecrest girls team also claimed the top spot with a total score of 56.

Looking ahead, the state championships are set for Saturday, November 9, at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco, with the girls’ 3A race starting at 1 p.m. and the boys’ 3A race at 2:30 p.m.
