High School Sports Round-Up from Albany
Albany had another eventful week in high school sports, with standout performances lighting up the field and courts. Football was a major highlight, particularly with the junior quarterback Archie Jones from CBA, who had an impressive game, completing 11 of 14 passes for 214 yards and throwing four touchdowns in a convincing 49-6 victory over Guilderland. His teammate Lucius Anderson also shined, catching six passes for 142 yards and three touchdowns in the same game.
In another standout performance, Tommy Toher delivered, rushing for 181 yards on 13 carries, adding one touchdown in the win against Guilderland. Meanwhile, Ihsann Alozie from Shenendehowa showcased his skills as he ran for 240 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-0 victory over Saratoga Springs. The week also featured notable performances from Brady Wyland of Colonie, who achieved 118 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
In boys’ soccer, Connor Byrnes played a crucial role for Schalmont, scoring the winning goal in the Class A championship. Meanwhile, Gianna Cirilla from Schalmont led her team to victory with a hat trick against Broadalbin-Perth in the Class A final. The girls’ soccer scene also saw Ava Goodman making headlines by scoring the overtime goal that secured a 1-0 win for Saratoga Springs against Shenendehowa.
Astonishing displays continued in cross country, where Liam Davidson from Queensbury finished first at the Foothills Council championships with a time of 15 minutes, 34.5 seconds.
