NEWBERRY, S.C. — The South Atlantic Conference’s head coaches expect a middle-of-the-pack finish at best for Newberry College women’s basketball, slotting the Wolves ninth in the league’s preseason poll for 2026-27.
Newberry collected 42 points from the 12 coaches who voted. That put the Wolves behind eighth-place Catawba at 62 points and ahead of Emory & Henry, Mars Hill and Tusculum, the three teams picked to finish below them.
Lenoir-Rhyne is the clear favorite, taking 10 first-place votes and 120 points. Carson-Newman drew the other two first-place votes and finished second with 108 points. Wingate, Lincoln Memorial and Anderson round out the projected top five.
Two Newberry players also made the conference list of 25 players to watch this season.
The Wolves do not have long to wait to start answering the poll. Newberry opens at Winthrop University in Rock Hill on Monday, Nov. 2, with a 6 p.m. tip. A trip to Converse University in Spartanburg follows on Nov. 9.
