PHILADELPHIA — The Carolina Panthers return from their bye week Sunday, Oct. 18, against a Philadelphia Eagles team missing its starting quarterback. Kickoff at Lincoln Financial Field is 1 p.m.
Jalen Hurts is out with a blood clot in his calf, so Tanner McKee will make the third start of his career and the first that is not a season finale. Running backs Saquon Barkley and Will Shipley were also ruled out, while receiver DeVonta Smith is set to return after missing two games with a hamstring problem. Philadelphia carried 25 players on its injury report this week.
Carolina arrives at 2-2 with one of the league’s most productive passing attacks, second in the NFL at 301.3 yards per game behind Bryce Young. Second-year receiver Tetairoa McMillan was named NFC Offensive Player of the Week after catching 14 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Detroit.
The Panthers expect running back Trevor Etienne back from injured reserve, and head coach Dave Canales said Friday the team would also call up Anthony Tyus III from the practice squad so it has three backs available, with AJ Dillon out with an ankle injury. Canales said decisions on Taylor Moton and Tershawn Wharton would wait until he saw how they felt Saturday before the flight to Philadelphia.
Canales told reporters his focus was on his own roster rather than the turmoil in the Eagles camp, saying the Panthers expect Philadelphia to play its usual style.
