COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Arts Commission board voted unanimously to put Ce Scott-Fitts in charge of the state agency starting Friday, while commissioners keep searching for a permanent executive director.
Scott-Fitts has worked at the commission since 2019, first in artist development and later as the senior deputy over human resources, communications, artist development, arts industry and public art grant programs that reach communities across the state.
Before joining the agency she helped launch the McColl Center in Charlotte as creative director, building residencies abroad for North Carolina artists and shaping exhibitions. She has taught at Central Piedmont Community College and sat on National Endowment for the Arts selection panels.
She takes the post Ashley Brown left when Brown moved back to the deputy director role. The board picked Brown in February 2026 to lead staff after David Platts stepped down; Brown stays on as deputy while the executive search runs.
The commission is the state arts agency that administers grant programs for artists and organizations. Groups seeking awards must hold a federal Unique Entity Identifier, and the agency posts regional calendars and funding notices throughout the year.
