NEWBERRY, S.C. — Both of the South Atlantic Conference’s weekly field hockey awards went to Newberry College players this week, a reward for the parts Wibien Dahmen and Payton Keeler played in Saturday’s 5-0 win over Wingate.
Dahmen, named the league’s top offensive player, scored three goals and set up a fourth. The game was still 0-0 at the break before she found the cage twice early in the second half, then added her third goal in the final quarter.
Keeler took the defensive award. Newberry held Wingate to one shot all game, and it missed the goal. Keeler also had three assists, feeding Dahmen on each of her goals.
The Wolves came into this week 11-1 overall and unbeaten at 8-0 in SAC play, ranked third in the nation with nine wins in a row. Dahmen tops the club with 14 goals and 35 points, while Keeler’s eight assists rank second on the squad.
